geoffersmasher Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 right guys went out and got a stereo today thought all was going ok and had it wired up after all there aint that many cables, just an ignition and an earth. but it wont turn on, now there is a battery cable that the system says i should have but i know that this is only for keeping the settins ie presets etc and im not fussed about that. the old stereo ran off the ignition so does anyone have any ideas ???? cheers guys
moocow Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 hi there all new head units need a constant live as well. this won't kill the battery as it uses the switched live from the ignition to switch it on. mock it up, turn ignition off and see if you can turn it on. also there might be a switch on the head unit for if its on all the time or only when ignitions on. hope this helps scott
james p Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 my alpine one has to use a seprate earth try that
geoffersmasher Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 what would be the best way to wire up a separate battery , or could i do it off a normal small 12v battery
Burns Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 just wire it up to the switched live off the ignition, that's what i did with mine. i would recommend putting the fixed live on, mine wasn't getting enough power and went off when i flashed my lights
toad650 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Just connect the bat live to a constant live, Clock or sumit if you can't be arsed to run a fused live to the battery. The uints prob not working cos the switch lives only makes the unit switch to the bat live so it'll only work with the ignition on.
geoffersmasher Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 right guys and gals as far as i can see its sorted, just to a constant live from the cable that was powering my screen wash switch (odd that it turns on all the time i know) but we shall see, perhaps ill wake up and my battery is dead hope not well cheers for the help everyone just got to cut out the dash so it will fit now
