sambo Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Bloody hell, i went to a car meet local to me, my cousin is part of a chavvy car club and i just went down to show them what a real car is! Anyway, after showing off and doing some burnouts etc, i went home and saw that there was smoke coming out of the bonnet and oil dripping out pretty rapidly!. I got home but it was too dark to see anything and after spending a restless and sleepless night i was out in the garage at the moment i woke. It turned out that the oil pressure guage pipe had popped off the little nipple thing on the engine thus chucking oil all over the engine bay!! I lost lots of oil and was lucky not too have killed the engine!! It worries me that its just a peice of pipe that simply pushes onto this little nipple and that is meant to stay there?? What does everyone else run in their pinto's??? And where can i get some new pipe from?? Cheers all.
DEP Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Very lucky mate. Darren Moss at Escort-tec has just started stocking it mate. http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=43942
sambo Posted August 11, 2007 Author Report Posted August 11, 2007 Nice one mate. Just baffles me that it's just a simple push -on connection that has around 60 psi running through it!!!
Guest MK1gaz Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 I've had one explode off the dashboard connection and spray my legs with red hot oil , not fooooooking nice at 80 mph . I'm making mine with proper braided hose and connections this time

Noodles Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 Thats why iv just got an electric oil pressure guage
Mr Sam Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 think ill mount mine passenger side and that were a bit lucky
BronzeRS Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 I am with Noodle on this one!! I bought my Mk1 Escort RS/Mex with a fooked engine because the twat who had it before me had neglected the need of connecting the oil pressure unit. As soon as I bought the car, I rebuilt the engine and fitted an electric unit instead!! I know there are those that will say that it isnt accurate enough and It is personal preference but I have had mine fitted nine years and never a problem yet with the pressure!!
