d_kni004 Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Does anyone one reckon I could use silcone sealant to stop a leak in my boot? Its leaking inside the boot so the sealant would only be in the boot lid trough. Cheers, Dave.
blower Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 what about seam sealer ...? much better than silicone

d_kni004 Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 Seam sealer? Where can I get that from?
d_kni004 Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 Cheers for the advice. I've just ordered some black tiger seal. According to VW forum its meant to be the dogs.
Posse Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Yes m8 its the tits i used it on my car ideal for sealing the gaps on the fiber glass panels.
Rick Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 thing is with sealer youl never get problems trying to paint over it or whatever but silicone.... well its a mission to fully remove if you do want to put paint there.
V8ian Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 You should NEVER use silicon sealer on a car body, The main curing agent in most Silicons is ACETIC ACIC, this remains active for a long time, I have had cars in the past where silicon has been used and as you peel the old silicon away a strip of rusty metal peels away with the sealer, you then have a massive hole all along where the sealer has been used, in one case it was a bit like zip removal of a whole floor and sill edges.
d_kni004 Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 Cheers for all the advice. A botched job narrowly avoided! Dave.
jimbo Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 On top of what Ian says, silicon sealant can also leach out silicon, which will streak down the paint and ruin it. Keep it in the bathroom and kitchen, and nowhere near your OSF Jim
