Right having a look round the anglebox today and know that the column was loose-no location on floor-so had a look!! :( Apparently the rack is a metro item (dont ask its what it came with!) and we assume the steering column to match. Now unfortunately the steering knuckle/joint is BANG in the middle of floorpan-great. But the previous owner (or whoever did it  ) didnt manage to locate the lower end of column-ie fix it to something so it doesnt flap about. Have a look on your escys etc. and see the little round bracket thing with the bush in on the floor under pedals-i was going to use one of those-but as i said the floor is hacked to allow the knuckle to move.

SO-could i weld in a bar-from the column to the floor/bulkhead area under pedals to stop it flapping-its the only thing i can think of-theres no room to play with as such-the columns right between clutch and brake pedal-no room to box in the knuckle? This would work right-at least until i can save up for some proper Milton gear-hmmmm.

All you need to do is fix a rodend over the shaft ... donst matter what side it is allthough the inside is better (longer shaft) .. the will locate it .. rodends are avalible in all sizes so you'll get one that fits and then just brace it back to the floor
