which starter motor

can someone tell me if a inertia starter motor will work on a pre-engaged starter motor ring gear ( fly wheel ) its for a 1600 ohc capri engine , because i have 2 intertia ones for a 1600 ohc and one will not ingage the fly wheel and the othere just jams thanks

the starters and ring gear will all match up,its just the wiring that needs changing about

Yes the motors will fit, but Ideally you need to turn the ring gear around as the bevel lead in for the bendix will now be on the wrong side, you may be lucky and get away with it, but sooner or later there will be a time when the starter will not engage and you will have to get the car in gear and bump the engine over sligtly so the bendix will engage

thanks for the info , i fitted then both to try them out again one just jams the engine solid and the othere just makes a grinding noise, so i think i will have to change the fly wheel over or get a pre-engeged starter motor and try thanks again
