BaileyMex Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Just went out to the garage for a little tinker with the carb linkage after fitting the trumpets to the Mex and thought I'd take it out for a quick spin CLICK!! Uhh Ohhhh...... as some of you know I recently had a nightmare with getting it started after moving the solenoid and elec ignition to get the new rad in, and I thought 'Oh for fooks sake' not more aggro Thought! ah! maybe its just a flat battery, not been used for a while, jump leads out connected up to the truck, still nothing just the solenoid clicking... BUGGER! Thought shit whats wrong now, got Gem (Bless Her) to help me push it out the garage and bump start it down the road in the rain It roared into life took it for a ten min blast and it sounds evil now Got it back home, into the garage, running rough as fook having trouble idleing, alternator light on the dash on (goes when you rev it) THought I'd turn it off to see if it started again.........It did!! so got the battery on charge, fingers crossed it'll start tomorrow for the Ace We love Old Skool motors dont we LOL
Posse Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 colin m8 turn the idle up abit then the light should go out or is this a prime up for you backing out tomoz?
BaileyMex Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 Hell No, even if I have to ask people to kindly push start me everywhere LOL It started after a quick drive so fingers crossed, anyway I told you last night what I'm doing tomorrow
bashmk1 Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 my little 1300L used to get the light flickering on on tickover, was still running a dynamo tho. sounds like its got a charging problem colin. is the battery new? is the water topped up in the battery? is there something that could be draining it? like a clock? it could be that your engine is just running off the alternator and the battery isnt charging.
BaileyMex Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 brand new Transit battery 6 months ago m8 Could be the alternator on its way out, it does look a bit old lol
bashmk1 Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 but when you had the short it may have damaged the battery, not quite sure how tho. have you tried wacking a new battery on? whip the alternator off and get that checked too!
tim Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 get it running and wack a multi meter across the battery to see what its charging at
BaileyMex Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 battery is out and on charge at the mo, I'll check it later, I wanna get it back on the rollers now to get it set up properly next month
