beedz Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 who knows what i'd do with a modern cars' electrics! I realise it's a fiesta thing, but i figured the charging setup is probably common across the board any help with this would be hugely appreciated http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=56284
Conor Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Check the earth straps to the engine from the bulkhead/inner wing and also the one from the battery -ve terminal to the body. Actually take them off and clean the area around the bolt/screwhole with sandpaper and also clean up the connectors as well.
beedz Posted October 3, 2007 Author Report Posted October 3, 2007 yeh cheers mate i've been on a bit of a earth cleaning rampage but no luck so far
oliwally Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 what age fiesta is it? what dash is fitted? petrol or diesel?
abarth78 Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 check out the regulator of the alternator
bortaf Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 Change the alt, it's the diode pack, all alts will step up to 14V over about 2500 revs but the diode pack should be controling it ~(and the dash light) at all revs over 1000 ish (tis why you sometime have to give a freshly started engine a wee rev to get the light out).
beedz Posted October 4, 2007 Author Report Posted October 4, 2007 sorted it - all running well wanna know????????? i measured the volts to the bulb from alternator signal wire - fine. volts to the other side (so the main system) 6V! traced the wire back to it's fuse. measured good volts one side of the fuse - 6V the other! looked at the fuse and it just needed a rub as it had 'furred' up (i guess due to the electron flow over time. So i've checked all the earths, battery, alternator removed & brushes checked, dash removed, opened wiring loom behind the dash, and nearly bought an alternator so, new matra for me - "check the fuses first!" cheers all those that gave help!
Wessie Posted October 4, 2007 Report Posted October 4, 2007 glad its all sorted next time check the fuses first
