RUSTYPUP Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I have some a pair of new 1600E inserts (not the sealed cartridge type). Anyone know how to fill them correctly with oil/what oil to put in. Had a go with hydraulic oil, but can't get them to damp properly. Don't want to get GAZ ones or anything flash as its just for a standard car
pauln Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I can tell you how much (350cc) but all haynes says is hydraulic fluid (and theres lots off different grades of that).
V8ian Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Search out some of the bike places, look for Fork oil, should do the trick, Fork oil comes in W5, W10 & W15, and Silkolene sell it, sometimes on fleabay as well
RUSTYPUP Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try the 350 figure in case thats where i went wrong. I don't think it was the type of oil that was the problem, as the damping was intermittently non-existent on the down stroke. Tried putting more oil in and it alters it but doesn't fix it. I rebuilt my motorbike forks a few years ago and increased the weight of oil to improve the damping. Worked for a while
