I have some a pair of new 1600E inserts (not the sealed cartridge type). Anyone know how to fill them correctly with oil/what oil to put in.

Had a go with hydraulic oil, but can't get them to damp properly.

Don't want to get GAZ ones or anything flash as its just for a standard car

Search out some of the bike places, look for Fork oil, should do the trick,

Fork oil comes in W5, W10 & W15, and Silkolene sell it, sometimes on fleabay as well

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try the 350 figure in case thats where i went wrong.

I don't think it was the type of oil that was the problem, as the damping was intermittently non-existent on the down stroke. Tried putting more oil in and it alters it but doesn't fix it.

I rebuilt my motorbike forks a few years ago and increased the weight of oil to improve the damping. Worked for a while
