escort21 Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Looking for a four way brake pipe fitting for the 'tina and i found one for nearly 9 quid for a small bit of brass!!...so i made one ...while i was there i made some stainless pipe fittings as well Why do things like this cost so much??.....cost peanuts to make....
Retromotorsport Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 How long did it take you to make them ?
Guest MK1gaz Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 allday and £15 for the bits !!!!!!!
escort21 Posted November 13, 2007 Author Report Posted November 13, 2007 Took a little while i must admit...but thats doing it using manual machines. If i'd done it on the CNC mill it would of taken 20mins and thats setup time too...and if i was doing a production run i could rattle them out once its all fixtured up..... and mine is billet brass!...the burtons ones are cast and all thats done is the thread put in....thats a piece of piss
Retromotorsport Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 so even if we say an hour ... at £50 an hour average charge thats £10 per fitting ... and i can buy those hose ends for less than a quid .. I know CNC will bring the time down .. and casting etc .. but not by much.. £2 for casting .. £2 for the machine shop £2 for the retailer £3 for profit .. or 1 quid each profit ...

Cookie Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Good on you m8 Some things these companies sell are just greedily priced, fair play to anyone who can do it for themselves
Cookie Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Also I suppose the decline in old skool stly engineering shops are a big factor in these prices, even things like nuts and bolts, where as you could go and grab a handful at someone's workshop and they'd say give us a quid if that, you now have to buy them in pretty packages in places like B+Q at a quid for 3 or 4
RUSTYPUP Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 Good on you m8 fair play to anyone who can do it for themselves Were we looking at different pictures?? Don't think I'd want to see him doing it for himself anyway
