  1. Bought this gt off jiffer a while back, turns out it needed quite a bit so I gave it a full resto as best I could in my garage, loads of new panels, fibreglass bonnet and bootlid, full respray in its orginal colour, engine has bcf3 cam, skimmed head, later clutch conversion, interior resto, had rack conversion when I got it already. Most parts were made by me as I'm a machinist by trade. I've got hundreds of resto pictures but I'm to lazy to sort them out!
  2. If the valve seats(only on the exhaust side) were worn it would cause a slight loss of compression which would make it more difficult to start but due to your symptoms I dont think its that. In my opinion those lead things are a waste of money. To be honest ive never had any of my engines valve seats done, you'll have to do a lot of miles before you'd notice any problems, sort your fuelling out and i'm sure itll be fine.
  3. Black smoke means massive overfuelling, if it was rings it would be blue smoke. If its overfuelling it'll be hard to start as it'll be flooding, try starting it without the choke and it'll probably start ok. Adjust the mixture screw when the engines fully warmed up by winding it in until the engine starts to run rough then turn it out again until it runs rough and the correct setting will be in the middle
  4. Don't worry Jiffer, the gt is being used and plan to gradually improve it, just got hung up on diy at the moment
  5. You need to use a gauge, shows you how to make it in one of the pinto tuning books(des hammell) you need to get the valve the correct length using a lathe or valve grinder and use lash caps until the gauge fits correctly, each lash cap will be slightly different It also depends on what cam you are using, reground cams have a smaller base circle which also messes up valve geometry, new blanks are the best ones to use I bought a bvh changed the cam and sorted the valve length and made up lash caps and it went like fook well worth it

  15. Thought the standard 1300 in the escort was a bit lame so I decided to do a mini winter engine job......so added a BCF2 cam with vernier and modded timing cover, 1600gt ported head, lighter flywheel, Loads of work to fit the twin 40s on a 1300 due to being a shorter block, so I shortened the dizzy 10mm and machined a bigger angle on the inlet manifold so it cleared ok. Then the trumpets hit the master cylinde r so sorted that ....and built my own carb linkage.....and built my own exhaust just for the hell of it...
