bomber1 Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 why do metalics need laquer. is it because it wont polish up like a solid colour or is it to protect the flakes? any help much o thank you
over_head_cam Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Metallic paint is sprayed as a very thin layer, just to colour the panels, the clear then makes up the rest of the paint thickness and gives it the shine. The metallic particles in the paint (mica I think) would slump if sprayed on thick, and even if it was done in light coats, it would be a waste as only the last coat would show. Probably
