danny69 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 I currently have the coilover struts for my 3.0l capri on the bench for a repaint. They are back to bare metal, I also have some 5mm steel plate marked out for the wedges, but as my car will never see a rally stage is it worth my while cutting out the plates and getting them welded in? I`m only in two minds because my Hacksaw is blunt
4parajon Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Think you've answered your own question there mate I would'nt bother either
danny69 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 Yeah Cheers, I think I`ll just paint them Although I might have to re-tap or helicoil one of the caliper retaining bolt threads first as it has been badly drilled out in the past and looks a bit crooked....
Anglia68 Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 I'm about to wedge a pair of struts for my Anglia. My way of thinking is that these are old struts, nearly 40 years old,and will have to cope with increased power, better brakes and superior handing than when they were first designed so a little extra strength can't hurt.
oliwally Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Also some of the planets worst roads in memory, speed bumps and pot holes.
MK II Mark Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 I wouldn't Wedge Struts if I were you, he's connected if you know what I fookin mean I'll get my coat
danny69 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 That's it, confuse me again, just when I had made up my mind
