I currently have the coilover struts for my 3.0l capri on the bench for a repaint. They are back to bare metal, I also have some 5mm steel plate marked out for the wedges, but as my car will never see a rally stage is it worth my while cutting out the plates and getting them welded in?

I`m only in two minds because my Hacksaw is blunt

Yeah Cheers, I think I`ll just paint them

Although I might have to re-tap or helicoil one of the caliper retaining bolt threads first as it has been badly drilled out in the past and looks a bit crooked.... :(

I'm about to wedge a pair of struts for my Anglia.

My way of thinking is that these are old struts, nearly 40 years old,and will have to cope with increased power, better brakes and superior handing than when they were first designed so a little extra strength can't hurt.
