leaded to unleaded

Gents ive got 2.8 essex and would like to convert it to unleaded. How hard is this and what sort of price do you reacon on it costing. I would rather do it my self thanks for any advice.

you have to get hardened valve seats pressed in i think, well you do on the older cars.

 

it will be a bit expensive having two sides to do on an essex

 

dont think you can do it yourself without the right equipment

As I recall there was lots of discussion about this in the motoring press at the time when leaded fuel was being phased out. The up-shot of it all is if you are using the car as a daily driver doing lots of miles, then yes you may need to convert to hardened valve seats. Alternatively you can set-up your valve clearences as normal, run the car for 2000/3000 miles then check if clearences have reduced due to valve seat regression. then if this change is very small you could reset them or then decide to have hard valve seats fitted. Costs of reseating seems to vary a lot plus the engineers will suggest you have the head skimmed, new guides, valves etc.etc.etc. Best advice as always, find someone who will recommend a good firm and ask for a quote. Ignition timing may also require adjustment.

thanks gents i had the valves reset 1000 miles ago and it was ruinning realy well now its started to go down hill again
