ok, i've seen loads of threads about stretching skinny (ish) tyres onto wider rims, what's the advantage of this? is it a fashion thing? i only ask because i've got 205/55/13's on the fiesta (it came with 2 and i got another 2 cheap) and was wondering if there's a problem with using these tyres on 5.5j rims? am i likely to be rolling the tyres in a corner for example?

I got told this from a fella I know, who used to build engines and race rally.

The usual thing people do is put 205 on a 7" RS Escort wheel, or even on the 6"

He told me the handling is worse because of the "rolling" as you mention, so Im sticking with 185 as it should be on an RS Escort, when I get my 7" wheels

PS love your avatar, cant stop looking at it

Yes 205's on a 5.5 rim will be crap , they're crap on a 7 incher as well  . I would use 175's or 185's at most , plus they look better

I had 205's on a 6 inch rim on my old Lotus sunbeam when i picked it up from it's last owner . In the wet the front would understeer so bad that the only way to get around corners was by flooring the throttle and hanging the arse out !!!!!!! . Stuck some secondhand 185's on it it bought for £40 and hey presto = a car that handles

My tina has 7x13's with 235/50's on the back & 175/50's on the front... that makes for some interesting handling but never understeer

ok, thanks for answering guys, i have found one good thing about the 205's though, it's almost impossible to curb them  (i get lazy when i'm driving for ages)

what would be the advantage for skinny tires though, the super stretched ones?

You only get understeer with 205's on the front , not on the back cos the front steers and the back follows !!!!!!!

yes I think your right, 175 on mk2 RS, on 6j's, mk1 was 5.5j, so what tyre did they have?
