Here follows a description of how I did this conversion. It worked for me however, I accept no liability if you set you motor on fire etc etc

Look at the diagram. All you need to do is join these wires together at the regulator. A1, A and F. That links the large wire from the alternator to the battery and ignition switch. The "D" terminal will have two wires on it, one a thin wire from the alternator, and also a thin wire from the generator warning lamp in the dash. Join these together also. Job done.

Now if you want to do this without cutting wires or altering the loom etc I took the regulator from the car, opened it up and ripped out all the gizzards inside leaving just the copper tracks in the casing. I then soldered terminals A1, A and F together so as to use the regulator as a junction box so to speak. If you do this the wiring will look completely stock. When you fit the alternator in place of the generator simply put the large wire to the large terminal on the alternator and the thin wire to the small terminal, you can't go wrong :ykt:

OH ARSE..... just noticed you have an Escort

Saw your profile name and just presumed you had an Anglia :? Ignore me mate, its been a long day
