m1c Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 i bought some webspace to host a site/forum but never got round to it. is it possible to upload a game onto it to play or is it a bit more complicated? cheers mic
Burns Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 yeah, it'd be a bit more complicated than that, do you know how to write html? or do you have a 'wizard' type program that will let you create websites?
m1c Posted February 21, 2008 Author Report Posted February 21, 2008 very basic html. I have a quick start option for a website which has templates etc ready to use
Burns Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 it's worth a bugger about (i'm sure the proper techies will be along tomorrow to give you a hand )
Copey Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 brokeback zetec is your best bet probably
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 How do you mean 'upload a game to play'? If you mean upload something like doom for people to play then no, it can't be done. If you mean upload something like doom for you to play, then no it can't be done. If you mean upload something like doom to keep there because you've run out of space on your pc, then yes you can do that but you can't play it until you bring to back down to your pc. If you mean set up a site to play flash games like throw the cat, then yes, you can do that, but as everyone else has said, it's a bit more involved. It will depend on your hosting package. You may need php (a language) and mysql (a database) if you're thinking about anything more than a flat static page. If you've got a flash game in mind, have you have the sources ready to upload then a no frills page won't be difficult to do. Have I scared you off yet?
MK5 Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 check out www.invisionfree.com - its really easy to set up a forum... if you look at my forum at www.cortina80.net you can see how easy it is to "hack" invisionfree and add stuff - i have an arcade with games as well as loads of other features that shouldn't be there my website www.cortina80.co.uk was built with FrontPage (part of MS Office) and is a fairly easy to use WYSIWYG editor
