Adam Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Just been reading up on paint for my Capri as I want to respray the car on a budget-best way of doing this i suppose is to do it myself. Ive got a compressor and will have to construct some sort of booth (I will be doing this when the weather is better-not at the minute, its far too cold ) I will have to get a gun and the paint etc.... Anyway I came across this article.. http://www.rickwrench.com/index79master ... paint.html Anybody done this before? Is it possible?Basically I need a respray-I cant afford a proffesional job. Or is this a stupid idea?
Burns Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 interesting certainly you don't have to have a huge budget to paint a car dude, check out the projects and resto room for people painting their own
Adam Posted February 21, 2008 Author Report Posted February 21, 2008 interesting certainly Well its worth a shot for the money isnt it...even on just an area I had areosoled it as a 'make do' til I could afford a respray-just as an experiment..if it goes wrong then I will have to do it properly
bortaf Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Heat the paint and use a radiator/gloss roller it'll never shine like a spray job and TBH it's not a job i'd do on a car (done a few trucks and vans like it) but if it's an alternative to a spray can job i'd say use spray cans and heat them first Or should i say WARM them first no chucking em in the fire i stand em on me a radiator for 5 mins than a good shake and use half a tin then repeat the WARMING and use the last half the tin
Adam Posted February 21, 2008 Author Report Posted February 21, 2008 i'd say use spray cans and heat them first Wouldnt that cost a bomb in spray cans if its anything other than gloss white or black? I want bright yellow Just been reading this thread on a Bug forum.. http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=234403 Some half decent results I might try doing the bonnet first as its all chipped up anyway
mk1mexico Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Iv no valuable input to this thread but that Corvair is fookin
Mick The Mig Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 I remember an apprentice where I was employed, decided to paint his Rover 110 (big old barge) with a roller, turned out average, but he was also the guy who filled the bottom of his rusty doors with concrete and plaster then wondered why the windows woun't roll all the way down!!!
