BudgieV8 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Hello all. Engine is fitted in my Capri & I have the MOT at 9am tomorrow - trust it to play up now! Engine is an SD1 with twin SU carbs & K&N's fuelled by a Facet Red Top via a Filterking set at 7psi. Problem: Ticks over ok-ish but when I road test it I put the throttle down and get a waaaaar noise but no increase in power, then it runs rough/cuts out. Restarts ok, then same again. Questions: 1) What pressure should the Filterking be set at? 2) Any suggestions on getting it running properly once I'm moving? Desperate now as the clock is ticking/daylight fading & I've ran out of ideas. Cheers, Paul
bmxdave Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 When it makes the waaahhh noise are the revs building up? Is it an auto box?
BudgieV8 Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 Its a manual box. The noise sounds like its over/under fuelling as the revs are trying to build up, hence the q about the pressure. It sounds like it wants to go but it bogs down.
bomber1 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 only just seen this but as a guess id say about 2-3psi as there only standard carbs
BudgieV8 Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 Reading up on Google it seems to be the case. Most articles talk of 2-4 psi max Can anyone else suggest any solutions?
mrmoo Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 my carb runs at 6-7psi so id say it about right, beside the needle valves on the floats should stop fuel into the float chambers when they fill so as long as the fuel pressure is high enough to give enough flow to the carbs there shouldnt be a prob id have thought?
