greyassanglia
hi im a relatively new member on here and the idea of stolen osf coming here disturbs me to say the least, having bought a lot of classics in uk it is quite easy to get through the ports with a classic on a trailor.the authoritys on both sides have out of maybe ten visits collecting cars asked maybe 8 times for some form of ownership docs,v5 certificate of export reciept etc, anyway if anybody suspects there car may have travelled here unlawfully i may be able to help being a member of three classic clubs and based not far from 3 of the main ports, first check buyandsell.ie and try get a copy of irish autotrader its were most modified classics are sold maybe 90%,second post it up here with as much identifying marks as possible i will travel anywere to double check a car if i suspect its one stolen, thirdly pm me details if you think it will help identify a car thats missing its quite easy to become a member on here and you never know who is taking all your details.there is abig demand for modified classics and rally cars and they fetch large money.there are not many dealers here and it gets out quickly if they have something special, irish equivalent dvla wont reregister a car without the original v5 or recipt of purchase but they can be cloned illegally with an old irish tax book and vin plates which is not enforced. again if any has anything specific they want looked out for i am only to happy to help nothing would give me more joy to jail a theiving pikey and return a cherished classic to its rightful owner. Mk2Jo
Hi greyassanglia, thank you very much for your kind offers of help However, I would warn members not to give up too much information as (without meaning to be offensive) we don't actually know who you are Please only give information that you are happy to give out to a person you don't know Again, thanks for your offers of help

Cos of demand, there are probably more Mk1 & 2 Escorts in Ireland than there are in Britain these days as every Irishman seems to want to go rallying! greyassanglia
are you asking me why do i think stolen cars are coming here? i dont well at least i hope there not and if they are i am merely offering my help to recover one i know i would be gutted if one of my cars went missing and any offers of help i would be appreciative off.your right there are a great many good people here and i hope im one of them hence my offer,i didnt mean to offend anyone only commenting on the content of the other threads it would be easy to get a stolen car here but as i posted not that easy to get rid of here the modified and rally scene is a tight circle and i happen to know quite a number from both.no offense taken im not looking for anything that hasnt already gone missing my offer hopefully has not been misinterpreted as someone looking for info on cars im not. i presume someone who has had a car stolen hasnt got much more to lose so an extra pair of eyes may come in handy,i will be at classic ford hopefully if my little anglia is all back together so hopefully i will meet some of you good people. DoireMan
There's not a big enough market here lad for people to be stealing big numbers of English cars, then selling them over here without anyone raising an eyebrow, whilst the English community are actively persuing the problem. I was thinking about this last night, and I can't imagine anything except they're being broken, unless they're being taken over to the mainland and converted to LHD. I was also wondering if there's as much of a spate of thefts as is being made out, or are people just making more noise about it now.
Mk2Jo
Just to change the topic completely As Irish rally boys ..... can you tell me a good rally to attend ... I was hoping to get over to see the Carlow MKII Challenge but it has been cancelled for this year due to beaurocracy (thought that only went on in England ) so I'm not sure what else is worth a week-end visit that includes a lot of the historic Escorts and other historic stuff? Thank you muchly

There may've been other Escorts stolen but with the development of the internet & OSF in particular, people get to know about or hear about stolen cars more easily than before. There have been several sightings of the same man driving the same car enquiring bout peoples cars around the areas of where a number of cars have been lifted recently

bortaf
There's not that many getting stolen (deffo not like back in the 80's ) It's just the news gets spread quicker due to the net and forums like this Does make me wonder though , yesterday i drove past a 2 door Mk1 in N London, on the drive no steering wheel lock, no alarm, nothing not even a car parked in front of it I only have a Mk5 cortina and that has an alarm, 2 immobilisers, a handbrake lock and a steering wheel gaurd pluss the fact it's beige helps keep the little shits away
