please can some one help iam :? ,i have done lots of searching on here and cant find what i need to know and any pics. I have brought the adjustable panhard rod from burtons for my mk1 escort and there are no fitting instructions supplied. looking at it i just cant work it out, it appears that i need to cut out a circular hole in the boot floor near the chasis, but i dont want to start cutting about if this is not correct and i havent got a clue. can anyone advise me????, there is also a flat plate with a hole in it about 2" x 4" where does this go?

they are a right pain to fit why did u go for an adjustable tower an not a fixed one

fixed are easy to fit maybe back that one an get a fixed one

to be honest i thought the non adjustable one would be easier to fit but was advised by a friend that i thought knew better than me to get the adjustable, and i have now ripped open all the packaging, and it is quite a long drive to exchange it

well after lots of worrying about cutting the hole in the boot floor in the wrong place i managed to get it to fit,i've just got to weld around it and weld the top brace in place, i had to cut it about because it was such a bad fit and burtons advised to just beat the boot floor untill it fits

here are some pics incase anyone else needs them in the future, later tonight i am going to try and fit my front compression struts and then the tramp bars

I'm no expert but that looks pretty cool. I guess from the part no. that it's actually a Rally Designs part. I think their Ally Hubs are Rally Designs parts too. I guess you could have rung Rally Designs for fitting advice.

...."I've bought a Panhard rod kit from Burtons can you tell me how to fit it Rally Designs?":lol:

Could you modify it if you need more height adjustment?

The easiest way of fitting the RD type of adjustable panhard rod is to cut up your corn flake packet .. make a cardboard model of the bracket and then trim this to fit the floor .. transfer the template to the bracket and trim it up ..

then guesstimate where the hole should be and .. make a small hole and fit the bracket up, with a bit of eyeballing in all directions you can open the hole out a little at a time and keep trying the bracket up .. eventually it will all fit in place

thanks for your advice toby, ive already cut the weld around the tube and pushed it up inside to lift it by 1" more  the design is not that good

Its a RALLY design part ... ie a rally car part .. rally cars are standard or plus 1" ride height

but the panhard rod should be as low as possible on the chassis mount for the best roll center location

Fair comment Retro - but how obvious do Burton make that when you're buying it for a road car :?

Handy fitting tips too  Can't beat a card template. - Good gaskets too!!

What do you mean as low as possible - shouldn't the Rod sit parallel with the floor at rest?

Its adjustable .. have a play !!!

By running it low you lower the rear roll center , so you car will tend to lift less on the inside front wheel during accel and less on the inside rear on decell ..

Lifting at the front tends to overload the outside rear ..and lift on the rear can cause a loose rear on corner entry ..

i think you are right Retromotorsport just have a play on the road and see what it does  ,i had abit of spare time today so i fitted the compression struts i hope they are right :)
