ive been trying to find a problem with a mates ford focus

the problem is the drivers window dont go down..... tried a new switch ...didnt work.....tried new motor.....didnt work.....turns out those items seem to still work...

but on further looking at it i found out if the fuse is pulled out and put back in then the ignition switch put on the window goes automatically down by its self...then to get it to go back up ,you have to push down on the switch first then it will go up but still wont go down after.......

any ideas what might be the problem?

cheers

i did replace the whole lot it but it didnt make no difference for some reason :? , so i put the old one back in to save the guy wasting £180 just for the window motor etc has it appears thats not the problem

if its an earlier focus look above the speaker, theres a large relay there.

its the one-touch relay.

when they go wrong they stop the window working usually.

sounds like water in the swith or similar thing to make it short out we have trucks at work that do it some times try a hair dryer on the switches etc and then a good dose of electrical cleaner spray not wd40

do they have comfort open? i.e if you hold the unlock button or keep the key turned in the lock, do the windows open?

you may have a faulty lock microswitch

i did see a relay above the speaker, but cant recall what year it was made

tired a new switch to start with has i thought that was at fault first of all,had same problem

havnt tried the door lock to see if it still works or not, where would the micro switch be located? if it has gone

he did say it started playing up before it went fully went wrong

the drivers side button appears to have 3 clicks and the passengers side has 2, i assume one of the extra clicks is for it fully go down automatically

cheers for the hints
