johnnysomersett Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 Hey guys. Which Atlas axle is the strongest? Im looking for one that can handle around 250-300 lb/ft Cheers
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 All of them have the same halfshafts and these are the weakest bit . Therefore i doubt if ones stronger than another although P100 casings are thicker than the others (and weigh even more )
Retromotorsport Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 What size tyres are you using and what 1st gear ratio and final drive ratio are using .. 10" wide slicks and a 3:1 first gear with a 5:1 final needs a tough axle 6" wide treads with a 2.8:1 first gear and a 3.09 final can use a less strong axle
ASBO CAPRI Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 As Gas has pointed out all atlas axles have the same halfshafts which are the bits most likely to brake but The LSD axle from a 2.8i special capri is even more likely to twist a halfshaft coz it loads them up more. I've run a 1600 capri axle behind a mild 350ci chevy before which was probably kicking out a good 350Lb/ft. Ran a string of 1.9 second 60fts and one 1.8 sec 60ft at santa pod and it didn't brake, but then again some people have been unlucky and broken atlas halfshafts with pinto power.

johnnysomersett Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 The axle im replacing runs on a 3.89:1 ratio (its not a ford axle) that'll hopefully be mated to a Ford Windsor 289 or 302 V8. I know there are alot of options for diffs in the Atlas ones. Im looking for purely a 'middle of the road' setup set up to be good for initial pull and good for motorway cruising. Any suggestions?
