tim Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Its a shame mint examples of cars like the ultimate rs1800 are used for rallying but, those that are left will only become rarer and more looked after. I used a 1300 Gl shell for my mega project, if i'd of had the money to buy an original rs1800 at the start, i would have kept it standard, maybe jus added things like panhard and brake mods. Most RS1800s that are rallied/raced today etc are not and were not road cars as they were originally built as the Escort RS back when homologation was needed, many cars were built for this purpose. Dealers encouraged the working man to be part of this and so parts/shells were sold from RS dealerships. Alot of those cars built were then given chassis numbers and logged as RS1800s. The dealership even built cars, Haynes of Maidstone, Thomas Motors etc, the list is endless. The lovely secretary at the time at these dealers then filled for log book etc to the DVLA her information probably stated that these were indeed RS1800s, laws then were a bit lapse then. So thats why theres probably more RS1800 logged cars than there should be. 400 were built for homolgation purposes. (not all were logged as RS1800 some as Escort RS). There were only 109 road cars built and I only Know of one car that is used in anger through the forests etc, all the others ( i know of 92 road cars) are exactly that, road cars, albeit some with mods tho. In my eyes the other cars werent built at the factory so cannot be deemed as true RS1800s as we know, chassis numbers prove that. So when you see the cars through the forests enjoy the bark everyone to their own cheers Dave what about thos people with bits of paper
Dave1800BDA Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 unsure to what you mean Tim, just go by the chassis number. There have been a couple of cases where the cars were used from new in competion and now they have resurfaced back as road cars.
