J_mk1 Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Im well up for modding OSF's, but i cant help but think alot of RS's, mex's etc are being wasted by turning them into rediculous spec rally cars? If ur gonna do that use an 1100 or something what u guys think?
johnny_h Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Yep, I love a bubbled MK1 but would never do it to mine.
tim Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 there all free game imo if its a good shell then cut it up,only thing i wouldnt cut up is a car with history ie x works, press car etc,id return them 2 former glory
johnny_h Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 i agree with tim easy for you to say when you don't own one
Mark2Mark Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 I agree there are a lot of them getting destroyed every weekend in forrests all over the world but unfortunatley a lot of the classes state you must have an original car (or original logbook anyway) not all classes demand this but a lot do so that is what must be done.
J_mk1 Posted November 16, 2006 Author Report Posted November 16, 2006 I saw a proper rallied up mk2 RS1800 in one of my mags the other day, i jus thought it was a shame. Dont get me wrong, it looked v cool! but it will be very difficult to return that car to standard condition, and theres only so many...
Wessie Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 yeh but at least with rallying and circuit racing there been driven hard and enjoyed - its better then letting them rot away
johnny_h Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 i say cutt them up and enjoy Is yours an RS Al?
tim Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 I agree there are a lot of them getting destroyed every weekend in forrests all over the world but unfortunatley a lot of the classes state you must have an original car (or original logbook anyway) not all classes demand this but a lot do so that is what must be done. but also how many escort have been restored by rally prep company over the years aswell
Mark2Mark Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 yeh but at least with rallying and circuit racing there been driven hard and enjoyed - its better then letting them rot away YEAH!! If you can't beat 'em join 'em
Wessie Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 but i do agree some should be left standard or mildly modifyed to remember what they used to look like
RETRO_AL Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 i say cutt them up and enjoy Is yours an RS Al? yes m8 original mexico had mint mex wings aswell they got cutt up

I'm all for it bring on the RAC
tim Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 but i do agree some should be left standard or mildly modifyed to remember what they used to look like that what concourse is for
Wessie Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 thats what i was getting at tim i say rally or race them
johnny_h Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 I dunno what to say. Your car is mint but cutting up a decent set of RS wings is a bit mental.
mk2 stu Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Its a shame mint examples of cars like the ultimate rs1800 are used for rallying but, those that are left will only become rarer and more looked after. I used a 1300 Gl shell for my mega project, if i'd of had the money to buy an original rs1800 at the start, i would have kept it standard, maybe jus added things like panhard and brake mods.
johnny_h Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 , those that are left will only become rarer : good point! Get out there and cut up your cars and wrap em round trees!
J_mk1 Posted November 16, 2006 Author Report Posted November 16, 2006 I bought a 1300 with mind to mod it up, if i had a RS/Mex i would keep it standard or atleast modify it in such a way it could be returned to original condtion, i think its a waste cutting them up.
Pipster007 Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 I too reckon it's a shame to cut up a perfectly good one, but if it's a basket case then it's OK. Even if the arches are gone, then I reckon it's fair enough to whack on some bubbles. Even the more standard spec cars are dissapearing, as people want to rallify them. Bash had a gorgeous MK1 which he sold before he bought Darren's old Mex. It would have been a shame to have started cutting that one up. If the standard spec ones all disappear, then we'll forget the old Ford heritage and nostalgia of how the masses used to get about in the days of affordable driving. You know, days of when your parents or grandparents would take you to the beach etc. In the future when all the standard specs have disappeared, people will only think they were only ever a rally weapon. That can't be good. After all, it was a shopping trolley that was turned into a rally weapon.

johnny_h Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 That's what they said about the dodo. sort of....
