Guest MK1gaz Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 Those T5 volvo lumps are a fooooooking long old beast . Would be good in a Capri though On second thoughts stick a skyline engine into a Capri instead
Mr Sam Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 theres someone doing that isnt there going to be intresting
mossy Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 theres someone doing that isnt there going to be intresting yeah its on here somewhere, going into a black mk3 capri...wonder how its doing?
Mr Sam Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 sure i seen it in a mag too under readers rides or whatever, nothing beats the sound of an old skool motor on carbs but a twin turbo'd 6 pot sounds bloody gorgeous too
Gonzo Posted May 16, 2008 Report Posted May 16, 2008 4A-GEs? Slow, they ain't.As these 4A-GE engines are only 1600's then 160bhp (100bhp a litre) would be a very good power figuire from one i reckon . I seen blown ones make over 500... They're using the 4A-GZE motor as a base though. Those ones come supercharged as standard with an all-steel bottom end and ceramic-coated pistons. The later 20-valve (3 inlet valves, 2 exhaust) 4A-GE motors are even stronger and come with ITB's as standard. They're an even better basis for bolting turbos to, but they cost a bomb. There is a King HUGE aftermarket tuning catalogue for these engines due to their popularity generated from the 'Initial D' movies and the drift scene. And the fact they're damn near unburstable.
Guest Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Lol , for a youngster you know the score Sam Hardly , he's just been brainwashed by the likes of you Gaz Sam, have a look how much you can pick a MkI Mr2 motor up for, I've seen them on the bay for less than £100 and they are 125bhp out the box, already have a front sump and with a pair of cams for £400 and some rubbing round the ports they will easily make 150-160bhp as Gonzo says, look on international e-bay for 4AGE stuff, its so cheap. The 20v with the throttle bodies as standard are on the bay for £550, you couldnt buy a pair of Jenveys with injectors for that money let alone a complete engine and they are 165-170bhp as standard. I dont think you will be buying a 165bhp Pinto for that money fella and if you want to follow your hero's the Harris's take a leaf out of their book and go for weight saving, Pintos and Cossie motors are heavy old beasts to haul up the strip I am seriously thinking of ditching the crossflow in my cortina for one, just got to see what the 105Speed bloke comes up with as a fitting kit and if I can afford it.
GT_Jim Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 the 4age doesnt sound too bad, anyone got any more information on them as im looking at zetecs at the moment but it would be good to have some more choice
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 17, 2008 Report Posted May 17, 2008 Hardly , he's just been brainwashed by the likes of you Gaz Well hows this for brainwashing then ? Get a budget Harris pinto (standard crank , rods , cast V6 pistons with a good head) and put it in a normal heavy mk1 escort on street rubber and it will kick a 1600 4A-GE toyota poopers arse even with cams + throttle bodies on it . You may not like that but it's true
Gonzo Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Gaz, do some research, mate. You know your pintos but obviously know f*ck all about the 4a-ge. Spend the same amount on a 4a-ge as you would on a 'budget' Harris pinto and you've already got over 200 brake and probably similar torque figures. Take off the blinkers that don't let you see owt but pintos and stop talking out of your arse.
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Dream on Gonzo , you get a 4A-GE hairdrier engine then and show us all how fast it is when it's done . Once you've spent £10,000 on one and it still can't keep up then don't say i never warned you .
Gonzo Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 See you on the strip in a few years' time, mate.
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Top man , that's the spirit and i wish you good luck
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 I'll have a Nelson please . (if posse has drunk them all first )
mk2 stu Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Just to really upset the apple cart (I Done xe install after all!!) What about using a honda s2000 lump or a rotary mazda ?
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 What about using a honda s2000 lump or a rotary mazda ? M3 4 pot would be good
mk2 stu Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 What about using a honda s2000 lump or a rotary mazda ? M3 4 pot would be good Fook me gaz thats a little eccentric for you! have to admit tho if i wasnt a ford nut the only car i'd own is an E30 M3, drove a couple and they handle like they're on rails, the 4 pot is an amazing lump too! be a shame to waste the car but a mk2 tina on 13's wouldont be a bad 2nd home
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Yes E30 4 pot M3 go like an old donkey but the engines have potential once modified and in a lighter oldskoolford . There was a 284bhp and 200 ibls feet E30 M3 4 pot at Torque of the Devils place the other month .
Gonzo Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 When I gets bored of the 4a-ge, a rotary's the next motor to go in.
zetecmk2 Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 sorry to take it back to the original topic but as my cheap n/a head hasn't materialised (yet), i think kooltina may be a good test bed for this saab engine! outside osf, there's a lot of good feedback about the 2.0 turbo. but i want to find out about the n/a engine. has it also a steel bottom end? valves etc?
russ105e Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Looking back over your history in the mags his Anglia has beaten you on nearly everything and when it hasnt its only been within 'enths of a second. Dream on mate . His super dooper 190bhp zetec was slower than my old pinto that he reckoned only had 150bhp !!!!!!!! Funny that !!!!!!! To be fair Gaz , for a standard zetec with a pair of cams and delorttos on it i thought his times were very respectable , with 175/50's on the back and all the crap he had in his boot that day taken out his times would be almost identical if not better And it's a comfy street car driven all over the country on a regular basis
Guest Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Just been looking at Gaz's media career Retro Ford May 2006 (Page 20) 0-60 in 6.08 1/4 in 14.49 @ 94.2 Top Speed 109.1 Classic Ford Autumn 2006 (page 48 ) Estimated Power : Been on four Rolling Roads this year, the best one has been 185bhp so want to see 170+ ACTUAL POWER 156.6bhp with 138lb/ft torque Retro Ford Feb 2008 (page 58 ) Estimated Power 215bhp Actual Power 196.2bhp Seems like you talk the talk Gaz but when it comes to the rollers they've proved you quite wrong twice. Looking at the 105Speed blokes Zetec Anglia Retro Ford Jan 2008 (page 25) 0-60 in 6.22 1/4 in 14.6 Top Speed at 117.9 From what Russ105e is saying and I can see both cars are running 4:1 diffs but Gaz runs 175/50/13 tyres and 105Speed runs 185/60/13s so Gaz is lower geared probably why the 105Speed Anglia has a higher top speed. So Gaz if you were both running the same gearing then I think that Zetec would beat your pinto hands down
mart67 Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 oh dear i do like it when somebody (who loves to blow his own trumpet)gets a little slap in the face! In this day and age its not clever to be to full of confidence as there is always somebody with something a little different that will blow you into the weeds!! I say fair play to anybody who tries a different transplant!!! You can almost put money on the fact that as soon as the xe's and the jap missile motors start whipping the cossies, people will change there tune.
Guest MK1gaz Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 So your saying that Neils 190bhp zetec didn't catch my 150bhp pinto then . That's even worse , it had 40bhp more and it's still fooooooking slower !!!!!!!!! As for the magazine rolling road day with my new engine , i fitted a so-called "high performance" air fliter the day before and it lost 20bhp , i took the filter off again and it now makes 220bhp . I'm also the fastest (according to a 50 page thread we had on here) with a full weight street legal at the time of the run , no gas , no slicks , no turbo , no bits missing , 4 cylinder engined oldskoolford with a 13.4sec at 105mph on the first attempt . I'll be trying to get into the 12's like that soon so if anyone can beat that then fair play to them but Neils shit zetec won't be one of them !!!!!!!
