Classic Ford Autumn 2006 (page 48 )

Estimated Power : Been on four Rolling Roads this year, the best one has been 185bhp so want to see 170+

ACTUAL POWER 156.6bhp with 138lb/ft torque

 Lucky it made 156bhp after the rolling road blokes fooooked up the timing and the carbs and then only held the throttle 2/3's open . When we got home i switched the engine off and it was still trying to run on for 30 seconds whilst i opened the garage door !!!!!!!

why is it always about the bhp ?, surely i'de be more interested in peak revs, torque, gear ratios, diff ratios and the 'get up and go' of an engine - but all you lot seem to do is quote bhp ?

exactly , "peak bhp" means fooook all , it just sells engines  . Torque wins races and the engine with the biggest power band will kill a "peak" big bhp motor everytime . Hence always look at the clock , nothing else matters :ykt::beer:

You can almost put money on the fact that as soon as the xe's and the jap missile motors start whipping the cossies, people will change there tune.

 Well they've only had 20 years to show us but they still haven't !!!!!!!! . The fastest oldskoolford 4 cylinders STILL ALL have pinto based engines in them

Surely the 'get up and go' is your quarter mile time ??

Your quarter mile time will take into account your peak revs, torque, gear ratios and bhp all in one simple race.

Its the best measure of performance for your car, not your engine.

i never mentioned anything about the quarter mile times - agreed it probably is the best measure, all i was saying that bhp doenst really count for much e.g. my m8's got 180 bhp, and i've got 190 that means im quicker kind of pub talk

less talk more racing i say

Yes let's  = Neils 190bhp zetec was slower in a race than my old pinto with 45's and points !!!!!!!!! :ykt: , strange that considering all his mates reckon it had 156bhp

just out of interest what are these conversions like on a day to day basis?
Depends what conversion your talking about . The full race ready stripped out race cars move about on trailers and never drive anywhere so that gives you a clue to what they drive like on a day to day basis !!!!!!!!

what i meant was stuff like your 16v pinto as its not standard cams and stuff and people who run zetecs and other stuff

im more interested in the day to day initially as i want to use the cortina as much as possible

Mine drives sweet mate , you can use it everyday no sweat . Don't believe all that "it's got race cams so you can't drive it anywhere" nonsense . Come see me at one of the meets and i'll take you out for a spin

That will be the modern management and fuel injection

Lol, here we go again!!

i must say, i agree with Gaz. I am not a regular at the pod but it really does seem fair to say that whatever people throw at the old skool pinto powered cars, they always prove to be quicker. I need more proof to see that spendning all that cash fitting a non ford engine (and the cost will add up when it comes to the crunch and the lump is sitting in the bay) is worth it all?

#i would love to see how good a s200 escort performs or a 4AGE powered mk1 tina etc. The motors are out there arent they???

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

oh and Gonzo...... bloody hurry up ya tart!! Get it done!!!

That will be the top notch mapping done by Chris Todd on a proper rolling road and not by some doughnut driving up and down the bypass guessing the settings !!!!!!!

4age engine is an awsome little engine and the japs love them for drifting, my son inlaw is very much into this engine and he says by putting bike carbs on it, it will be an unbelievable engine to useand he was looking at putting one in a mk3 tina but has been bitten by the V8 route

have seen volvo twinks turbos planted in escorts and at ford fair mk1 festa with a rear mounted scooby turbo dare to be different, if it works watch people follow
