BronzeRS Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 I had a look under my car for the tag on the diff which tells me ration info. but I cant see it!! Is it obvious if it is on there or do i have to get right under and search for it?? There are a varying numbers on the diff housing. can any of these help me distinguish what diff it is?? Or is it a case of lifting the back wheel and counting the revolutions of wheels to diff?
danny69 Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 The ratio is usually on a tag inside the housing, so it means taking the diff cover off, if it is an atlas. Or as you say see how many wheel turns you get for one turn of the prop.
capriaddict Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 If you've got the full RS2000 running gear including the back axle it should be a 5.4 diff as this is what they were fitted with as standard.
tonymk2wagon Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 ???? 5.4 rs diff is a 3.54 for shaw. 5.4 would be hill climb/rally fodder only. oh and unless your incredable lucky its not an atlas axle so no diff cover to remove just the whole diff.

Smudger105e Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 The tag on an Anglia diff in usually on one of the diff bolts, mine was at the 8 o'clock position, a small aluminium tag with the ratio stamped (pressed?) into it. Most people don't bother putting them back on once the diff is removed/changed...
johnny_h Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 I'm pretty sure this car is actually a mex which would have a 3.7 ratio.
BronzeRS Posted June 11, 2008 Author Report Posted June 11, 2008 Thing is, I believe that although the body is a type 49 mexico, it has a full RS2000 running gear on it. But I dont know if he replaced the diff or just the engine!! being that it has a type 9 gearbox with an 2.0l pinto from '75 if my numbers are correct, then the diff could be anything!! Reckon lifting the back of the car up and seeing wheel revs to prop is gonna be the easiest way of finding out
