1uk3m4n Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 i have just heard form some bloke on another site he always says people never look at a car when the alarm goes off so instead of having the siren on the outside he had it fitted inside the car and it had a backup battery so went off for half an hour non stop dont think you would nick a car if that was in your ears for half hour you wouldnt be death by the end of it
CossieGlyn1 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Alarms are only any good if they people pay attention to them when they go off and most don't. I like the idea of the siren in the car, but with the way things are going today, the little scrote who steals the car would probably sue you for hearing damage!!!! Most car theft is by opportunistic little shits who only steal unalarmed cars, however, there are lots of organised theives who don't care what alarm you have since they usually know just how to either bypass them, cut them out quickly, or disarm them using factory overrides. There are lots of tracking devices around, but again a good car thief will know where they are located, and how to strip them out. This device sounds good since it can be placed anywhere you the owner want to put it, and it doesn't have to be hard wired, making it impossible to damage it with a voltage spike to the electrics. When my car gets to be nearly complete, I'll be having a toad alarm fitted somewhere very inaccessible, with sirens in the car and a tracking device of this style also. If you've spent the time and money on your car, you want to make sure that it is either no stolen, or if it is, you get it back in one piece.
crapichris Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I saw a suggestion last year in one of the car mags for a cheap tracker. Buy a cheap pay-as-you-go phone, shove a fiver on it, fix a permanent supply on it, switch on silent and discretely hide in your car. (Remember to clear the c**p incoming messages off it every now and then). If the car goes missing tell plod and, according to the article, it can be tracked to the nearest cell (normally within 300m). As for immobilisers remove the king lead.
Jelly Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 You don't even need to stick a fiver on it mate, jut make sure it's set to automatically answer incoming calls! Only downside is that it's not recognised by insurers, and raiding every premises/lock-up garage in a 500m area would be a pain in the arse! Who do you ring up to track a mobile phone then? Might end up doing this myself..

It is a cheap way to track but there are issues such as battery life, accessing the GSM location information, keeping it topped up with credit and of course it will only get you to within a 500m radius of your car. That is a big patch to search if you are in a built up area. This system uses the above principal but also uses RFID technology to get from the 500m GSM radius to a 1m radius. Don't forget that you can also track the car using the available software from any PC that has access to the internet. Keep an eye on your car while you are at work, assuming you have a desk job! I suppose you could also keep an eye on it using some mobile devices that access the internet too. Keep voting guys.
crapichris Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 if you permanently connect it to the car supply there are no battery issues except the one in the car. If you tell the Bill what you have done I understand they will contact the service provider to track it. Whilst I agree it ain't as accurate as the tracker, it's far cheaper, and more importantly it's better than nowt.
