Capripete
How hard is it to change a diff on an atlas axle? I've fubarred mine, and my garage told me to get a second hand one which they'd fit. I got one from Escort tec and now they're saying they can't do the job because it's too hard and requires shimming? Anyone shed any light?
bortaf
Yep it need the preload setting on a new crush washer and if they've split the diff that will need shimming when it's rebuilt
X-pack-Glyn
Well, do you mean diff or CWP.... we changed mine to LSD spec and kept the 1600 CWP, no need to mess with the crash washer, it was pretty easy to sort it out, fitting the diff itself shouldnt cause too many problems... sounds like the you need a CWP mate. bortaf
But to fit the diff you need to remove the drive flange and the crush washer? then reset it when putting it back in ? I said flange

Retromotorsport
And to set the pinion and crownwheel up you need these Its a job best left to the professionals .. i have the tools but havnt built a center up in years as it takes me too long, its cheaper for me to get a pro in

Don't remember seeing any funny washers. Thought that was if you changed the pinion. I just put the 2ltr crown gear on my lsd and bolted it back in the casing. Had no problems from it. Capripete
Went along today to speak to their mechanic, and basically he told me what i told them when i took it in, it's rumbling! They havent even taken the cover off to look at it. He said that because i had the diff as crownwheel and pinion it was too specialized a job for them. I'm going to pick it up on monday and i'll get it home and have a look at whats actually gone. Thanks for the replies chaps!
