How hard is a diff change?

How hard is it to change a diff on an atlas axle? I've fubarred mine, and my garage told me to get a second hand one which they'd fit. I got one from Escort tec and now they're saying they can't do the job because it's too hard and requires shimming?

Anyone shed any light? :thumbsup:

But to fit the diff you need to remove the drive flange and the crush washer?

then reset it when putting it back in ?

I said flange :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Not with mine, we put diff in after transfering the crown wheel (me and QuadCamCapri) checked the mesh, all nice and perfect :thumbsup:

Same here. I fitted LSD to 2ltr axle. Don't remember seeing any funny washers. Thought that was if you changed the pinion. I just put the 2ltr crown gear on my lsd and bolted it back in the casing. Had no problems from it.

Went along today to speak to their mechanic, and basically he told me what i told them when i took it in, it's rumbling! They havent even taken the cover off to look at it. He said that because i had the diff as crownwheel and pinion it was too specialized a job for them. I'm going to pick it up on monday and i'll get it home and have a look at whats actually gone.

Thanks for the replies chaps!
