Hi all - my bonnet has warped since it was last on the car

whats the best way to straighten her up??

hmm its a tough one, maybe clamp the bonnet a little too much the other way (anti-warp if you get what i mean) and use a heat gun for a while, worth a shot i guess.

In short, you can't. Its fooked. Once they go, they go. If it'd been made using coremat, it'd have stayed straight and have been stronger than steel but the downside is it would have weighed more and cost a lot more.

 

If they don't warp, they ripple. Large flattish fibreglass areas and high temperatures don't make good bed fellows.

thanks conor thats a pretty good thing to know - I wont get a new one but I will change the way I will clamp down the bonnet - I will stress it a little to fit and it will have to stay like that

my bonnet moves all the time,. if i leave it up for a long time when im working on it sometimes i have trouble closing it ,it expands and contracts with the heat

get it clamped down where you want it and get a heat gun on it where it`s warped. it wont go back to normal but it`ll be pretty close. dont get it too hot tho, it`ll start to bubble and melt!!!

 

if you use coremat on panels, you dont need to use as much matt as normal so they shouldn`t be any heavier, unless you use 4mm or thicker,or any more expensive for that matter!

I've tried over-bending grp and adding a bit of heat, but you have to be careful that it doesn't crack. A new one will prob be a better bet m8
