Sometime's you just need a change.

If your looking for a 2.8 of equal quality if not in better condition have a look at Jubfabs in the for sale room, its lovely.

if it's only a 1600 even a bog standard 2000 would be dramatic improvement on power,:mrgreen: and if its a face lift mk1 it would be pinto for pinto so it would be a straight forward swap,:mrgreen:

yeah i know that mate but thanks for your input anyway, im confident i can do the swap should i decide to go ahead but the point a lot of you are missing is im thinking of changing the car, not just the engine.

should i decide to keep the capri id like to fit a tuned 2.0 motor, lower the car and fit some new revolite wheels along with a few other mods, problem is i never have the spare money. i suppose i could do it in stages .

ive been offered what seems to be a good 2.0 engine but its so far away from me, does anyonew know of a courier firm that would collect it for me?

Whats a good mk1 worth these days?

last year i was offered more for my car than it was actually worth! a classic car dealer from hull just 'had to have it'

but he didnt

im gonna go with plan A for now and try pick up a decent 2.0 engine to play with.

in the meantime il still consider a swap for something

I am the same as you, i also fancy a change but i think i would regret selling my mk1. Its getting harder to find nice cars at the moment, if i sold mine it would take me a long time and a lot of miles to find a replacement on the same par.

It took so long for me to get mine, as much as id like a Mk1 'tina, I just couldnt get rid of it and be without an OSF again.

If you can swap with something more exciting, something you really want then do it mate, but if its just coz your bored of it, take your time and change it, it doest have to be expensive.

Mate if you need an engine picked up DEF use etsltd.co.uk

cost me £42 to have a BIG engine picked up from preston near blackpool and it was delivered to my doorstep in london 2days after I placed the order!

U couldnt even drive there for anywhere near that price... Absolutley brilliant :thumbsup::thumbsup:

What's it running at the moment? 1600 Pinto if my memory serves me right? A swap for a 2 litre is very straight forward and with a Haynes manual, a hired hoist and an extra pair of hands can be done on the driveway in a day with ease. It will yield good results if you get a good spec 2nd hand engine.

to swap from the 1.6 to a 2.0 should take you ~ 5 hours

i swapped from pinto to zetec in 10 hours and i have NEVER done an engine swap before and never wired up an engine/all the bits and bobs before

pinto-pinto is basically.

unplug everything, lift engine out

place new engine and line up the shaft on the gearbox with the back of the engine. pop that in then wiggle the engine mounts in.

plumb the fuel in and fuel return up. click back all the wiring from the old stuff. easy

and im in west yorks so if you need a hand with the swap over im sure ill be able to give it a good burn up there.
