Retro-gone. Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 in a nut shell, my mk1 capri just isnt doin it for me anymore, i no longer get that 'buzz' i used to get, ive owned and treasured her for 10 years but just lately ive found myself secretely hankering after something different, something quicker, hopefully il stick with fords, defo a classic car, its taken me a while to actually admit this to myself, never thought id see the day i said this but i need a change of car may consider a straight swap for something.
5hane Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 nooo !!! what you need is a 2.0l in it THEN and only then decide if you want rid
Retro-gone. Posted July 15, 2008 Author Report Posted July 15, 2008 this will do me http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1983-FORD-CAPRI-I ... .m14.l1318
5hane Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO that wont look as good next to ya chopper will it now
Admin Vista Posted July 15, 2008 Admin Report Posted July 15, 2008 I'd think very carefully before swapping a good mk1 that you know intimately for a mk3 of unkown pedigree. Besides if it's speed you want there's plenty can be done to the car you have to make it match the performance of a 2.8i
fairlane500 Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Stick with the Mk1 mate. Best Capri by a mile and yours is in THE best colour too
Admin Vista Posted July 15, 2008 Admin Report Posted July 15, 2008 yours is in THE best colour too It looks yellow to me not orange
john_3.0s Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 yeah stick with it bud! you need an 3.0 essex in it
Duke3s Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Mate, hava serious think. Ive been wrestling whether to sell my 3 litre S - never drive it and i keep spending silly money on it and the cash would be very useful now...... But, if i did there would be a big capri shaped hole left! It may have to go if i cant get some cash from somewhere else but i know i will be sick to my stomach. Why dont you put it away for a month and when some nice weather comes along have drive out - have a bit of distance. Should make up your mind for you. By the by - it looks awesome!
Rick Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 put it in the garage for a few days youl get over it i did
louie bagel Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 give yourself a slap if you get rid of that car you'll regret it i promise you , if its power you want do as everyone else says put some more power under the bonnet repeat after me "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI" "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI" "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI" "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI" "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI" "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI" "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI" "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI" "I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI""I WILL NOT SELL THE CAPRI"
Retro-gone. Posted July 15, 2008 Author Report Posted July 15, 2008 its comments like 'stick a v8 in it' ,or '3.0 essex' etc that do my head in, i havent got the skill to do it nor have i got the money to pay for it doing, if i had i would. i turned down a mint low mile v6 and ancilleries cos i wouldnt know where to start . il leave it alone for a while and have a play on my bikes to mill it over.
Admin Vista Posted July 15, 2008 Admin Report Posted July 15, 2008 What's it running at the moment? 1600 Pinto if my memory serves me right? A swap for a 2 litre is very straight forward and with a Haynes manual, a hired hoist and an extra pair of hands can be done on the driveway in a day with ease. It will yield good results if you get a good spec 2nd hand engine.
antz Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 tony dont sell up ill happily lend my hands if you need help with an engine. i know nothing but i can make an ok cup of tea you should of seen the attention your car was getting at the sledmere show. everyone was looking at it and admiring it. theres not a fault with your car. no offence to the other capris because i love them all equally but everyone seems to look at the mk1 as the ultimate capri and yo got a minty fresh yellow one....lucky bastard
lead foot Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 dont sell it, you will only kick yourself later.
antz Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 gotta admit. after 10 years of owning the car, when you see it drive down the road to its new home youll regret it immensely.
Lukey48screamer Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 A well set-up 2.0/2.1 Pinto with twin 45s and an LSD is what you need my friend Wouldnt sell that capri mate, it certainly looks in a league of its own - spot on
X-pack-Glyn Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 I speak from the experience of 7 2.8i's, 2 x 3.1 essex cars and 2 x 3.0 essex cars, all mk3.... believe me, your new 2.8i will bore you silly after a few months, stick with the pinto.... A 2 litre with even moderate tuning which is dead easy will whoop a 2.8i no problem.
stephens_xpack Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 Plus you would have to take off that silly cossie spoiler off the blue one
surfingturnip Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 as with Antz if you need an extra pair of hands I'm happy to help after all 'lackey' seems to be my middle name
Retro-gone. Posted July 16, 2008 Author Report Posted July 16, 2008 thanks for the comments and advice, but like i said i have no money to spend on tuning gear like twin 40's etc,. i wont regret sellin the capri if i find something as good.
