whats what with these pinto fans, the one on the 2.0 engine i just bought is different to the one on my 1600, can i put the 1600 one onto the 2.0? purely for cosmetics cos its yellow and im doin some yellow on the motor.

i presume one is a viscous and other a fixed type, never had a lot to do with fans so dont know much about them.

Can yu spin the fan independantly of its pulley? if s then its viscous. The general idea is that they dont spin so fast at high engine speeds so use less power (petrol!!!!)

The fixed ones spin at the same rate as the water pump so end up spinning really fast when you dont really need it to (7k in 4th on the motorway).

From a power pint of veiw then I beleive that the viscous is the better choice(?)

but if you want it all to match then fit which ever one is yellow

Yes you can fit it

the bugger viscous unit is a later addition, gave a sposed 4 BHP over a fixed fan.

A viscous fan can't fit a fixed fan water pump but a fixed will fit a viscouse pump
