type 9 speedo pinion

Could anybody shed any light on the best way to check out what pinion i need (the part i refer to is the section that is fitted into the gearbox and comes in different colours with different amounts of teeth to alter the speedo reading )

I have found a calculater to work it out but dont really know how to go about sourcing one

I have got a white 23 tooth one from gs escorts but it seems to long and doesnt fit well are there different types ???????????

from my calculations i need a 17 tooth one to get my speedo close

on the way back from ford fair i was chasing an m3 and my speedo needle was bent against the stop

I suppose i could go down the rooute of re calibrating the speedo but i will still need to fit the correct speedo drive pinion to the box
