Does anyone know what the clutch master cylinder is on my car?

The number on it is...

SP1963

... and its made by Lucas.

Is it Escort or something different?

Also. My car keep boiling the clutch fluid. Would dot5 fluid help? And is there any other ways to sort it or stop it?

Why is it boiling the clutch fluid?? there is only one reason that the fluid should boil as the whole system is non friction , ie no brake heat, other than the clutch plate, and even this is remote., the only reason it should boil is its touching the exhaust, and to do this its probably reaching 400degC, and the most flamable fluid under the bonet is clutch/brake fluid, get it sorted.

A long tome ago Top Gear did a test on a car with an eye dropper, on a running engine they dripped petrol onto a hot exhaust manifold, the petrol just boiled and evaporated, then they did the same with brake fluid, and it exploded into flames.

Its not actually physically boiling the fluid (i f@cking hope not anyway) but its getting really really hot. I think its causing air blocks in the system too.

Its not too close to the exhaust at all but the pipe runs near the block and the slave cylinder is one of those central telescopic type ones (forgoten their proper name).

Can anyone help on the master cylinder please?

Ill take a picture tommorow.

Yeah its like those wilwoods with the integrated reservoir.

How do i measure the size of the bore without taking it off? I need to drive it to work to remove it but i cant leave it there overnight.

And are those a fair swap for the old Lucas ones?

Would i benefit from a larger bore?

Sorry lots of questions i know.

Cheers :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

SP1963 was the Girling repair kit part number for 5/8" bore brake and clutch master cylinders fitted to Anglias/Cortinas so possibly yours is 5/8".
