SAF_Capri Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 Im looking at fully stripping my front end, re plating, filling where need and would like to peoples opinion on the best form of rust treatments and prevention available... ie dinitrol, the rustbuster prodicts, waxoil, por 15 etc ... as id like to get it right and not have to worry for a fair few years,..obviously i know things still need maintaining and sometimes 'top-up' coats. cheers, shane.
Rick Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 if its bad cut it out and replace. iuf its just pitting id just attack it with a wire wheel tool on the grinder til its all gone and etch prime it. as long as you clean all the rust out it wont come back. im not a fan of these rust preventer things... bare metal, primed, painted, wont come back
SAF_Capri Posted August 12, 2008 Author Report Posted August 12, 2008 i agree in the sense im going to cut out what i can, but what about hard to reach places? what is the best etch primer to user? could it sit with this on for about a month prior to final paint?
Rick Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 any etch/acid primer will be ok. if your going to leave it a while though id dust a bit of cheap paint over it to stop the moisture getting through the primer hard to reach bits you can improvide with a wire brush or various tools you can put in your drill. failing that get a cheap sand blasting gun and just blast it in the hard to reach nooks. my rust aint come through anywhere in the past 3 years and you wont find one much rustier
tazrocks88 Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 POR15 i have been told by so many to buy it as its so good meant 2 be top quality stuff and basically chip proof
