SAF_Capri Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 I know its probably a well covered subject but are they worth it? Do they really crak-can u prevent this? is the weight saving over the front end worth it-on a capri? shane
Airbag Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 mines cracked like hell. If you spray it satin black and don't mind it looking abit ruff then go for it. If you want it to look as good as a standard bonnet don't
SAF_Capri Posted August 14, 2008 Author Report Posted August 14, 2008 Keep the original t is then did you notice much weight saving? ...and rust saving
Gonzo Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 On a Capri, that's a hell of a lot of bonnet. I imagine you could help it not cracking by fibreglassing some ally strips [say about 15-20mm wide by 2mm thick] around the edges and crossing the middle? Give it a bit more rigidity without adding too much weight.
SAF_Capri Posted August 14, 2008 Author Report Posted August 14, 2008 thats what im thinking,..im trying to lighten my car even more, especially over the front end, the new engine will help,..
Gonzo Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Yeah, alright for you to say when you can still get steel panels for your motor at a reasonable price, but when a pair of wings for, say, a mk1 tina/escort are upwards of £300 EACH, well... not everyone's got the money to be picky.
Fishtailparka Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 a pair of wings for, say, a mk1 tina/escort are upwards of £300 EACH. More like £600 each for Mk1 Mex wings. I put fibreglass ones on mine, and they don't suck.
antz Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Sorry guys I worded my first post wrong. I can understand wings etc (the price of steel oens are mad!) SORRY PEOPLE...PLEASE ACCEPT MY APOLOGIES What I intended to say what that I think fbreglass bonnets suck. My dad has one on his mk1 and its horrible.
Gonzo Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Apology accepted. Admittedly, I'm not keen on f/glass bonnets [rather have ally or painted c/fibre due to f/glass ones being very flimsy imho], but if it was all I could get hold of, I think I'd put up.
sambo Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 I have fibre glass wings and a fibre glass bonnet. Seriously, if you are worried about a little bit of cosmetic "wear and tear" i.e cracks then dont get one, but i personally think the benefits of saving that much weight is worth it. Especially on a capri! those things are HUGE!!!
zetecmk2 Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 cracked fibreglass still looks cooler than heavy metal ones!! build a rally slag
