Anglia68 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 millington if thats the people who make the 2.5 cossy yb's it may be a tad on the expencive side Yes,it is the guy who makes Millington Diamond engines but they're nothing to do with Cosworth. Millington use their own blocks, heads, cam carriers, cranks, rods, pistons and many other parts. A carrier turned up at work earlier this year to collect a pallet off us and when the driver opened the curtain there was a crated up Millington Diamond engine on the back which he had just collected. I offered to take it off the wagon but the driver was having none of it.

Anglia68 Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 do they use cossy designs then ? i knew they were a custom blok but didnt know the head was too there worth silly bucks arnt they ? As far as I know when he first started building his own engines they were based on Cosworths but since then they've been developed bigger and bigger to what they are today and now share very little with the original Cosworth engine.

Wilkinson Dynamic Balancing of Halesowen are supposed to be very good.I've had crank and rods balanced by them even though I went through other companies. http://www.wdbltd.co.uk/about.htm
Retromotorsport Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Only one place my customers go to in the Midlands .. and thats Chessman Engineering, ask for Steve Peason .. and say that ' tall lanky pisshead from Retro ' gave you his number .. hes in Nuneaton . number is 02476 689 665 He's done Classic Le-Mans engines for Jaguar and Aston, and yet still has Clubmans prices, hes a piss taking barsteward though, so be prepared for a laugh ..
escort new boy Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 theres a place in Aston got some bits from there last week, can dig the number out if you want it?
mrmoo Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 cool the more the better! im glad these places still exist
speedydaveb Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 If you're from Cannock, have you heard of John Wade Engineering? He did a lot of work on my mex spec xflow years ago but specialised on working on essex V6's He was working out of his home in Baswich, Stafford when I used him though last I heard he had an industrial unit in penkridge somewhere Tried to google his name but it came up with nothing. I might still have his number and could ask him where he gets his balancing done if you get stuck
mrmoo Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 that would be awesome finding essex specialists is like finding hens teeth
speedydaveb Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Just got off the phone from John, he is still going, working from four ashes industrial estate. He says he cannot do dynamic balancing (WTF? going over my head now!) but can balance the pistons and rods himself. The crank he would use a guy he knows that is a specialist in the field and then went on to explain about V6's being different than straight 6's and piston weights and rod weights when he lost me again! If your engine is an Essex he would need the crank pulley and flywheel to balance the crank as it is externally balanced (understood that bit) so lightening the flywheel cannot be done 'willy nilly' (his phrase!) He's a top bloke, can talk for England but don't expect him to be the cheapest, he is a specialist after all. If you want the job doing it would be advisable to do it sooner rather than later as he has another customer that needs a crank balancing in the next few weeks and it would work out cheaper if he did yours at the same time. John Wade Engineering tel: 01902 798303 tell him Dave Bolton sent you!
