Took my MK1 mex for a spin tonight and noticed a couple of things. The first thing is when the engine is running the ignition light I think thats what it is!(the one below the indicator light) was kinda slighty glowing/ flickering when the main lights or parking lights were on, it didn't do it when no lights were on though. :?

Next thing was noticed the gear change was a bit stiff. And the brake pedal would return nearly all the way after braking and after a few secs it would pop out the rest of the way.

Ive had the same flickering light in my one, it always happens when the lights and wiper blades are going.

im guessing there is a problem with the alternator not giving out enough power, but that could be caused by a few things: bad earth, loose or knackered belt going to the alt, or the alternator could be one its way out.

im no expert on electrics, but always check the earth connections 9 out of 10 times it to do with that.

hope it helps,

My ignition light has always flickered with lights and wipers on but has never been a problem with a flat battery so I just ignore it. The brake pedal might need new bushes does it have any side to side movement?

Thanks lads  , was worried it was an oil warning light or something, checked the oil this morning and it's got plenty. Seems like the brake pedal has a slight bit of side to side movement. Anywhere I could get a rebuild kit for the pedal box altogether? Or maybe a new pedal box? Another thing was there was loads of heat coming through the bulkhead into the cabin, was really warm like the heating was left on, is that normal?
