stevepeanut Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 can someone settle an argument between me and the missus. We all know the mk1 and mk2. Now the confusing bit, I would say the mk3 was the first of the front wheel drive cars, and the mk4 was the same car but with more rounded off lights like the last of the rs turbo escorts. But my bird says that they were all mk3s just slightly revised. http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=81991 so is this guys car a mk3 2nd revision or a mk4? if its actually a mk3 then it looks like it jumps to a mk5 in the 1990s
tim Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 ive always known it as a mk4 and ford called it that on the parts system
escort new boy Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Mk4 but in the Rs turbo world it would be known as a series 2
countrybumpkin Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 the one in the link is a mk4 escort 86-90 these are my 2 mk4 -86-90 main differences plastic bumpers ronded headlights and wrap around front of bonnet and large bulky dash mk3 - 81?-86 main differnces metal bumpers plastic grill but hey are really the same car with a different front although the fronts are not interchangable
razersedge Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 it's a mk4 but there was a change in the mk4 on the late 3i's and turbo's interior change, bumper change and spoiler change and this was known as the 90 spec, the van in the pic has got a 90 spec front bumper
stevepeanut Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 looks like her indoors is actually right, it was never officially a mk4 "The Escort Mark III received a facelift in early 1986. Codenamed within Ford as "Erika–86", and sometimes referred to as the "Mark IV" (although it was not officially the fourth generation)"
FredTransit Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I get this all the time with the transit. some people miss the Mk1, and call the one that came in in 78 a Mk1,. The shape from 1986-2000 I would call the Mk3, but most insist in calling a van with so much as a different bulb holder a new Mk, and so between 1986-2001 there was the Mk3, 4, and 5. If you go that route TBH we should be on the Mk10 by now
countrybumpkin Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 the mk3 and mk4 escorts are classed as 2 differnt mk's in all books and on fords own pats system even though there isnt much difference
sporty-corty16v Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 the one in the link is a mk4 escort 86-90 these are my 2 mk4 -86-90 main differences plastic bumpers ronded headlights and wrap around front of bonnet and large bulky dash mk3 - 81?-86 main differnces metal bumpers plastic grill but hey are really the same car with a different front although the fronts are not interchangable wow a bedford ha van ive always wanted one of those
