MM77 Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 8 carriages. Who cares???? Why on earth is that mentioned every time?? "Hang on dear, we have to wait for the next train. This one only has eight carriages"...
MM77 Posted September 23, 2008 Author Report Posted September 23, 2008 When boarding the overland trains, I always get reminded "this train has eight carriages" over the tannoy. I dont understand how anybody would find that info useful???
cisco24uk Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 is that not for the ones that split off four carriages? Had that happen half the train fooked off and I was left on the wrong bit Doh
Trevmk3 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 dont use the trains much and the ones round here only have 2 carriages max
Noodles Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Its so you know how far the train is going to come up the platform i think
Copey Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 maybe its so if one goes missing someone will notice
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Its so you know how far the train is going to come up the platform i think Yep, Noodles is right. Some platforms are not as long as others, so some carriages will overhang at the end. They tell you how many carriages there are, then they tell you what one you're in. So, if you want to get off at a platform that will only take the first 4 carriages & you're in carriage 6, you will have to move down in order to get off Oh and don't forget to... MIND THE GAP
Lardy Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 yeah it only happens on the new trains in london as said its because some stations the train wont allow the rear carrage doors to open so its for some of the not so frequent travellers and also just to let you know why it seems to take ages for the doors to open at victoria on the new trains its because the trains dont know where they are so we as drivers have to manually open the doors and the computer system on the train is not the fastest in the world and as all know train driver dont move quickly either
Smudger105e Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 I used to do station announcements in the mornings when I was waiting for my train and knew the station staff. "The next train at platform three is the London Vistoria service. This train calls at Haywards Heath, Gatwock Airport, East Croydao, Clapham Junction and London Victoria. This service has buffet car facilities towrds the rear of the train." Name that station! lol
