350moggy Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 my capri runs fine I'm pretty sure that the stat is ok (bottom pipe stays cool for a while then when the engine is warm all of a sudden the pipe gets warm too) I have had the heater apart taken the matrix out flushed and back flushed it. but still all I can get is cold or slightly warmer than cold Any help or ideas gratefully recieved please
escort21 Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Probably got an air lock in it.......haven't found any easy way of getting rid of it though apart from not touching it to start with
johnny_h Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 I have the same problem. I stripped my heater box and cleaned out the matrix before putting it all back in and it worked great for about a week then nothing but cold air.
Trevmk3 Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 not a clue sorry mate, had the same problem in a previous car tried to fix it but ended up getting someone else to do it. put a coat on you'll be alrite
jimbo Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 When I fixed the heater on my old Fezzy, I did the following to avoid an airlock in the matrix. 1) Get some corks or rubber bungs that fit the bulkhead manifold pipes snugly. 2) Use hose to fill the heater from the bottom pipe. 3) When water runs consisitenlty from top pipe, put bung in place. Reduce flow to bottom pipe by pinching hosepipe. 4) Remove hose and bung bottom pipe as quick as you can. You should lose little water as the top bung stops it coming out. 5) Now connect the hoses from cooling system to manifold. No real preference for which one you do first, but I did the bottom one first as it was easier to access this way round. That said, I'm sure that you have far more room for manouvre in a capri bay than in a MkI Fezzy. File the rest of the system slowly, working on the basis that the matrix had about a litre of fresh water in it when calculating how much anti-freeze to put in. Hope this helps. Jim
Danmex Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Take it out and throw it away, it weighs to much
350moggy Posted November 30, 2006 Author Report Posted November 30, 2006 I'd love to throw it away but at 4.40 in the morning I get a really funny whining noise coming from the back seat ....... That'll be my passengers then telling me to buy a new car with a heater and a fuel gauge !! Not a chance but I will fix the heater...........promise Cheers for the advice guys I now know what i'll be doing in the morning.
flyingbanana Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 i allways stick some in then start the car up with the heater on and then carry on filling....never had airlock
bigstevemex Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 mate if you are having a problem with air in the system and it sounds like you are, either try jacking the front of the car up and put it on axle stands then carefully fill it.then pump all the hoses with your hands until you feel the air being replaced with liquid.it takes a bit of experience but you should be able to feel it.then start it up and leave it idling until the thermostat opens.then switch off and put back on floor.that should clear airlock.if not get someone with a coolant pressure tester to pump up the system to purge out the air.if you have not used one before get some help because it can be dangerous.hope this helps.
johnny_h Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 I had a nose around mine today and the heater matrix turned out to be blocked. It was easy to suss, I just removed the bottom hose and blew through the top hose and there was nothing coming through. No water or air. I expect the matrix became blocked when I used some rad weld a while back. I havent managed to clear the blockage yet though. Anyone got a trick of the trade?
