Telling DVLA about engine change

Im Fitting a 1600 xflow in a few weeks, took my broken 1100 xflow out today,

 

i had a look on the dvla website, and there going on about having a receipt for the engine and engine replacement from a garage, but im doing it myself,

 

so how do i prove what engine etc is in there, if they only accept a receipt from a garage,

 

do i need to have it inspected or something,

I had this with insurance before,i just got a short letter on headed paper from my local garage to say that everything was in order and safe and that was fine,id imagine it would be the same for the dvla,might be worth giving them a call

if your upgrading an engine then you should really(not that i have) get an engineers report to say that the car is up to the required spec ie. brakes suspession and such likes,

when i did mine i just changed it on the v5 sent it to dvla and got a new one with correct cc on the new v5 never had to send paper work Rolling Eyes ............never had problems with insurance neither

thanks everyone, i will be finding out for sure in a few weeks once my engine is in,

 

im guessing a garage would charge me to inspect the car though

You shouldn't need to have an inspection as the engine you're putting in is one that was fitted in those cars.

 

I stuck a 2L in a 1.6 Capper. Sent off V5, phoned insurers. It didn't cost me any extra and they didn't need an engineers report.

Had this problem with my escort as on log book it said it was a 1300 but have now got a 2ltr in it.Went to my local garage and they printed out a short letter with engine no and size on headed paper.i also got m.o.t at same place so they could have a good look at car and check car over.it also made it more awkward as car had not been taxed for 16 yrs.

when declairing an engine change???

or if the CC's arent changed just the number of valves and the engine no. will the tax be the same or will it go on the nex taxing policy for the car the engine came out of?? etc

Im slinging in a 2ltr and taking out the x flow will i have to do the same???

when it came to taxing car i had to go to main dvla office in sydenham and bring along log book and update records of engine size,and letter from garage so they could then issue me my tax disc they were very helpful which makes a change .the tax on vehicle changed from 1300cc to 2000cc which cost 185.00 squid
