crossflow engine mounts

Can someone please help-i've just got some new steel engine mount brackets for a crossflow in a mk1, and a new pair of rubber donuts.

 

Both brackets are different lengths, so are the rubbers-i need to know which bracket goes with which rubber and on which side.

 

My standard other mk1 has the old square type bushes, and both brackets are the same length-whichever combination of bracket/rubber i use will give a different position and length so ruling out trial and error does anyone know the correct order.....

No one fitted a crossflow recently then.....

Yep (well I refitted it)

 

But I can't remember which way round they go....and its dark, and my torch is broken

OK......It's come back to me now.......I remember having issues with this....

 

My rubber donuts are the same size (the wider ones) I ordered one of each to find the thin one no good to me......

 

With the metal mounts, the longer one is mounted to the inlet side (I think it's to allow the inlet manifold to clear properly) and the shorter to the exhaust side.

Hmmm well looking at the crossmember-the engine mount (the bit that the donut slides on with the slot in) on the passengers side is longer-ie it sticks into the centre of the crossmember more than the drivers side-which is pretty much straight up-this says to me the shorter steel bracket should go passenger side to make up this difference.
