need help in photoshop

Got some questions..

 

When i open a car in photoshop, and mark it and changes the color of the car, i cant lower the car or do any more on the car, i just changes the layer where i changed the color.. any top tips.?

use the lasso tool, cut around the wheel arches of the car and sills and then draw it all the way up the top then across the top and then join it back to the start

Thanks for help.. I just found out that when Im done with layer1 and lowered it, i have to Merge the two layers together..
