Retro-gone. Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 on my 73 fqcelift capri, im good with all the metric stuff but its the imperial thread sizes ive never really grasped , im gonna buy an assorted lot of imperial bolts/nuts but what exactly do i need? mainly for engine bay and suspension ,,
60ftman Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Engine bolts are usually UNC, and I suspect body bolts & suspension will be UNF. Rocker covers are probably 1/4 UNC, inlet & exhaust manifolds 5/16 UNC, Bell-housing either 3/8 or 7/16 UNC. It's always handy to have a selection of 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 UNF nuts, bolts & washers. (Washers are more-or-less the same as 6mm, 8mm & 10mm)
Retro-gone. Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 thanks for that although all threads directly associated with the engine ie manifolds, rocker cover etc are metric.

Retro-gone. Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 yeah its a pinto (sorry i just assume everyone knows my car ) so i just need unf selection not unc?
danny69 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I have found the smaller sizes ie. 5/16 are usually UNC and the larger ones such as 3/8 and 7/16 are usually UNF. That is on my mk 2 Capri anyway, but there is plenty of metric stuff too. Personally I would just buy what you need rather than a huge range that you may never use.
