come out with some crackers sometimes, these were said last week in my lessons......

Ben “Sir, didn’t you used to be in the Army?”

Me with a sigh “yes”

Ben to another yr7 boy “see! I told you”

Yr 7 boy “so how come you survived?”

And in a higher level GCSE class while teaching about the uses of waves

Me to class “and microwaves are used to communicate with satellites”

Milly “REALLY?”

Me “yes, their shorter wavelength allows them to punch through the upper atmosphere”

Milly “that is amazing we just use ours to cook stuff”

I've given up stop trying to laugh, my poker face is crap so I usually just crack up when they say stuff like that. I'm currently trying to slip Darth Vader quotes into my lessons without the kids realising. So far it is going pretty well. My greatest achievements are:

while teaching about global warming I said "the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the force"

and sending a Yr9 down to the technology department to complain that "Mr Ward wanted to go to Tarshi to get some power convertors"

I've got a handful of like-minded teachers to do the same thing. We've singled out a single child, looked at his timetable and have been slipping in star wars quotes into most of his lessons for a few weeks now. My wife thinks its cruel but I call it entertainment.
