ive got a starting problem with a mk1 escort. it starts from cold no problem at all but when it is warmed up and turned off it will not start. once it has cooled down it will start again no problem.

has anyone got any ideas, or had the same problem?

its a 1300 xl :?

Sounds like the timing is to far advanced to me mate thats the most common reason for that. First thing i would check is the timing,Have you tried giving full throttle to start it from hot as mine sometimes done this and it started on full throttle no trouble.

 

I know it is a common fault with the crossflow engine as the inlet manifolds get very hot and the fuel is vaporizing before it can get into cylinder head and be fired :thumbsup:

 

You can get past this by putting a lower thermostat in and also timing it up thats how i done it anyway :D

thanks mate ill give it a go, doesnt start on full throttle neither, someone suggested the ballast wire but how do i check if its working???
