glenbo Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 when a zetec is fitted into a mk1 escort and bike carbs are used does the servo tower have to be moved? or do things just about fit, just finding out info before i start the conversion if anyone can help would be much appreciated
escort new boy Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 depends on the bike carb manifold i reckon
harris horse power Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 i dont think bike carbs are all that , my mate had them on his engine and it was quik but now his put 45s on its much much quiker
glenbo Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 i dont think bike carbs are all that , my mate had them on his engine and it was quik but now his put 45s on its much much quikercant afford 45's at the moment so had to settle for bike carbs, hopefully get some later in the year when work picks up
Conor Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 i dont think bike carbs are all that , my mate had them on his engine and it was quik but now his put 45s on its much much quiker The difference with bike carbs is that unlike 99% of second hand Webers, they won't be shagged and they also return better fuel economy.
over_head_cam Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I've heard that although bile carbs won't give the same performance as Webers, they will make up for it in reliability, smoothness and fuel economy. That's only what I've heard
Mick The Cabbie Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Cant understand why they make less power than webers. 45's generally run with 38mm chokes. Most bike carbs have 38mm or 40mm chokes with a sliding venturi for low speed pickup etc. So why would they not make the power that webbers do???
Billy_smith Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 i ran bike carbs on my 1700 and it screamed like a bird on a PORNO!!! it use to rev and rev and rev, much better than when i ran webbers, it wos good on fuel and very smooth aswell as responsive. it cost me 90 quid to make the manifold and buy the carbs!! in my opinion at the money you cant go wrong!!
dawesy1700 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 i run bike carbs on a 1660 xflow, 234 cam etc, it puts 123bhp at the wheels and, with a 4 speed box, gave me 44mpg back from ford fair last year. depends what carbs you get too, zx9 or zzr100's are roughly the equivelant size as 40's, but unlike twin 40's, bike carbs give you 1 carb per pot, hence the gain in driveability, power and fuel economy, the only downside i've found is they dont sound as nice as webbers, other than that, bike carbs win on every ront in my opinion at least.
MightySprocket Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 mine 1600 xflow runs very well on Fireblade Carbs, smooth low down and loads of torque, never driven it with 40s on so can't compare but I am impressed... they do suffer on frosty mornings, im talking -3 deg though
mk1super Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Ive found (I'm running 40s) It seems to make the car a bit all or nothing, like a light switch almost either On or Off no middle ground, though it probably needs re setting up Also in my opinun Bike carbs are a doddle to work on. I'd not be to keen on using zzr1100 carbs as thes were known to be restricted (Basically to stop the ZZR doing mental speeds ) Which is why alot of the time you find ZXR750 carbs on zzrs instead - instant derestriction, and if they can fuel a bike at 16000rpm am sure they will do just fine. However i'd be more inclined toward R1 carbs, newer carbs, refined design
mk1super Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 mine 1600 xflow runs very well on Fireblade Carbs, smooth low down and loads of torque, never driven it with 40s on so can't compare but I am impressed... they do suffer on frosty mornings, im talking -3 deg though Thats Karma mate, the ghost of the dead blade

mk1super Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 lol i didn't kill the blade, some other fool probably did that Ah but you robbed its dead body Two wrongs dont make a right an all that
dawesy1700 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 i'd call in Living TV with evet fielding, she'll call your carbs a bitch to try n make the ghost angry!
dawesy1700 Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 back to the carbs haha, the biggest pain in my arse has been bogg bros, they made a cracking manifold for me but they dont know what bikes their carbs come off cause they buy them in bulk batches, so if you need spare parts, as i have needed, you cant tell the bike shop what bike or year they are, n boggs simply said, and i quote, "can't help you there mate", £550 for the kit, n they can't help me, haha, soooo, this year, a new set of carbs from a good bike reaker with exact mileage, make, model n year, yippee. n i cured the frosty thing by puttin a hotwater bottle on them on a mornin, looked like a cock in my slippers putting a big fluffy bottle under the bonnet but it worked, lol.
